Latest QA Technologies

According to google QA means, “the maintenance of a desired level of quality in a service or product, especially by means of attention to every stage of the process of delivery or production.”

At Fugetron Corp, Our aim is not just testing the client’s product but it is in making them better

Today’s market is full of several QA technologies and it’s very confusing to decide over one.

A number of QA technologies {for eg. QTP (Quick Test Professional), (Unified Functional Testing), Katalon, Selenium etc} have taken over the market and many companies find it tough to decide over one of them.

All these technologies come with their respective pros and cons and its very important to have a detailed knowledge about each of them before choosing anyone.

Talking about QTP it is an automated functional Testing tool that helps testers to execute automated tests in order to identify any errors, defects or gaps in contrary to the expected results of the application under test. It is an icon-based tool that automates the regression and Functional Testing of an application.

UFT uses VBScript to automate applications. It supports the largest pool of software development environments like SAP, Oracle etc.

UFT/ QTP may have a number of advantages but there are also a view disadvantages that come with this testing tool, Unified Functional Testing runs primarily in Windows environments. It relies on largely obsolete Windows-only technologies such as ActiveX and VBScript which is not an object-oriented language.

Another drawback is that it cannot be tested with all browser types and versions. In particular it does not support Opera.

High licensing costs often mean that the tool is not widely used in an organization, but instead is limited to a smaller testing team.

Next on the list is Katalon Studio which is a free automation testing solution. For those who have good programming expertise,Katalon provides test case creation in scripting mode also. The in-built templates, frameworks, integration to Jira, Git, Jenkins etc features help in speeding up the test case creation time.

The disadvantages of Katalon studio is that Unlike tools like Selenium the script creation is limited to Java and Groovy only. As of now there is no support for distributed testing.

It cannot automate desktop applications unlike some licensed tools like UFT.

Moving onto another Testing technology I.e. Selenium, it is an open source tool which is used for automating the tests carried out on web browsers.

It also provides a test domain-specific language to write tests in a number of popular programming languages, including C#, Groovy, Java, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby and Scala. The tests can then run against most modern web browsers. Selenium deploys on Windows, Linux, and mac OS platforms.

Disadvantages of selenium would be that as it is open source there is no reliable technical support from anybody, It supports Web based applications only it is difficult to use and takes more time to create Test cases.
